Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Bike & Sail Lyngen expedition.

Bike & Sail Lyngen is a guided mountain bike expedition in Northern Norway. Guests live onboard MS Polargirl and use the vessel as a floating basecamp. Each day, the boat brings the group to different riding areas, giving access to remote terrain, coastal landscapes and mountain routes that are difficult or impossible to reach by car.

It combines the expedition feeling of the well proven Ski & Sail concept with mountain biking, fjords, good food and life onboard a classic Arctic vessel.

Bike & Sail gives you a unique combination of mountain biking, expedition travel and life at sea. You get:

  • Access to remote riding areas
  • Minimal daily packing and logistics
  • A floating basecamp with meals and accommodation
  • Fjord views from both sea level and mountain terrain
  • The adventure of landing with your bike directly on beaches and remote shores
  • Guided riding adapted to the group
  • A small-group expedition atmosphere onboard MS Polargirl

This is not a normal bike holiday. It is a boat-based mountain bike expedition in Arctic Norway.

You should be at least an intermediate rider. You do not need to be a professional rider, but you should be comfortable riding on natural trails, uneven terrain and longer days outdoors. The guides will choose routes based on:

  • Weather
  • Trail conditions
  • Group level
  • Safety
  • Comfort of the riders onboard

If the group is mixed, the guides will adapt the plan as much as possible.

Yes, absolutely. If you want a rest day, you can stay onboard, relax and enjoy the boat and surroundings. This can be a good option if you are tired, want to recover, or simply want to enjoy the fjords from the vessel.

The product is based on guided riding, and we strongly recommend following the guide team. If you choose to leave the guided programme, ride your own route, explore a village, ride along the road, or go independently, you are doing so on your own responsibility until you return to the boat. Please always inform the guide team and crew before leaving the planned programme.

Wildlife sightings can happen, but they are never guaranteed. The area is rich in nature, and whale sightings are possible. We often see wildlife in the region, but Bike & Sail is not sold as a whale safari or wildlife guarantee. Any wildlife encounter should be seen as a bonus.

Bike & Sail Lyngen is a new pilot project, so we do not yet have a fixed average age for this specific trip. Based on similar Ski & Sail trips, guests can range from younger adventure travellers to experienced riders in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond. The most important factor is not age, but attitude, fitness and riding level. If you enjoy mountain biking, outdoor travel, good food, fjords and expedition-style experiences, this trip can be for you.

We recommend booking as early as possible. This is a small-group product with limited capacity. Similar Ski & Sail trips often sell out far in advance, sometimes up to a year ahead. A deposit secures your place.
